Year of the Wood Dragon & Lantern Festival

The Wood Dragon of 2024, known for its cooperative, upbeat, and understanding nature, symbolizes a year of growth and stability, especially in relationships. It brings forth the promise of fortune and new opportunities as per the Chinese zodiac. This makes our event at Herrontown Woods particularly special, blending the Wood Dragon’s symbolism with the serene beauty of nature.

We intertwine the enchantment of the woods with the vibrant traditions of the Lantern Festival, celebrating and welcoming the start of the Lunar New Year. Embrace the spirit of the Dragon Year and Lantern Festival through a delightful hike illuminated by lanterns. Participants are encouraged to bring their handmade lanterns, or they can choose from purchasing specially designed lanterns on-site—a great way to support our fundraising efforts—or opt for free simple lanterns available at the event.

Embark on a lantern-lit hike through the woods, showcasing your own handmade lanterns, making a free one on-site, or purchasing a fancy one to support Herrontown Woods' causes, which aim to connect the community with nature, art, and history.

Seize the unique opportunity for kids to participate in a dragon walk, then children and adults can participate in a lantern walk in the forest, enhancing the mystical experience. Lanterns and dragon art will illuminate the paths, and the adventure will be filled with engaging traditional games. Savor the exotic tastes of tangerines and tea, celebrating the festival's spirit.
